Waunakee Hoops Club facilitates youth team selections (grades 3-8) which will be conducted in the fall of each season (late September/ early October). Kids from each grade level will be put through drills led by members of the HS coaching staff while all youth volunteer coaches evaluate all players within their grade level. Data collected will determine each participant’s ability level and, ultimately, their team placements. The intent of this design is to facilitate an appropriate level of competition for ALL players at each grade level.

The following has been established by the current WCSD coaching staff & is what we support within our youth basketball club. Organization of teams or individuals beyond what is defined below WILL NOT BE SUPPORTED by our hoops club program, the club board or WCSD boys basketball staff members.

Players determined to be ready for 5 on 5 games & competition will be divided into teams with the intent to compete in the Badger Developmental League. BDL rosters will be determined by data provided by youth coaches in attendance at fall youth evaluations & established by the HS coaching staff. 

Youth coaches who hope to participate in tournaments in addition to the six BDL dates, will refer to BDL rosters to comprise their tournament rosters.  Waunakee Youth Basketball supports a total of 10 dates of competition (six BDL weekends & a maximum of 4 tournaments) at the 3rd grade level.  Player registration fees are used by the Hoops Club to register for league (BDL) play.  There is no added cost to participate in league play.  Coaches at the 3rd grade level are responsible to offer equal opportunity for events beyond the assigned league play for all participants. 
 

Youth coaches who hope to participate in tournaments in addition to the six BDL dates, will refer to tournament rosters to comprise their tournament team rosters.  Waunakee Youth Basketball supports two tournament teams with 10-person (minimum) rosters at the 4th grade level & a total of 10 dates of competition (six BDL weekends & a maximum of 4 tournaments) at the 4th grade level. Player registration fees are used by the Hoops Club to register for league (BDL) play.  There is no added cost to participate in league play. Player rosters/ coaching staffs will be determined & communicated by the Waunakee HS coaching staff.

Youth coaches who hope to participate in tournaments in addition to the six BDL dates will refer to youth player evaluations to comprise their tournament rosters.  Coaches participating in tournament events beyond the BDL are expected to select competitively appropriate events.  Waunakee Youth Basketball supports a total of 12 dates of competition (six BDL weekends & a maximum of 6 tournaments) at the 5th & 6th grade level. Player registration fees are used by the Hoops Club to register for league (BDL) play.  There is no added cost to participate in league play.  Event participation fees beyond the six BDL league dates will be divided among participants. Player rosters/ coaching staffs will be determined & communicated by the Waunakee HS coaching staff. IF coaches wish to take part in WI state tournament series, top 10 (or more) evaluated players will receive invitations.

7th and 8th grade teams will be split according to ability.  The top evaluated players will comprise the “A” team within the Badger Developmental League.  “B” “C” and/or “D” teams will be compete versus suitable competition in appropriate leagues.  Tournament teams are selected according to evaluations conducted in fall.  Coaches participating in tournament events beyond the BDL are expected to select competitively appropriate events.  Player registration fees are used by the Hoops Club to register for league (BDL) play.  There is no added cost to participate in league play.  Event participation fees beyond the six BDL league dates will be divided among participants. Player rosters/ coaching staffs will be determined & communicated by the Waunakee HS coaching staff. Participants whose families choose to open enroll will not be eligible for the top tournament teams in 7th and 8th grade.  

**3 on 3 tournaments are encouraged, but not supported by Waunakee Youth Basketball or Waunakee Hoops Club.  

**We trust and encourage all Waunakee Youth Basketball coaches to find tournaments & events versus suitable competition on non-league dates.  The HS staff and Youth Directors are willing & able to assist in locating and recommending tournaments.  Player registration fees are used to register our youth teams for league play.  Avoid scheduling extra events/tournaments on pre-determined league dates.  All extra events/tournaments come at the expense of those participating.
